The City of Oakdale owns and operates the Oakdale Museum, which was opened on October 13, 1985. The Oakdale Museum is situated in the historic Sydnor-Prowse House. The mission of the Museum is to preserve the rich history of Oakdale, display or keep file of historic artifacts and mementos related to Oakdale history, to educate the public in preserving the history of Oakdale including historic buildings, sites and artifacts and to use museum resources in aiding the restoration of historic buildings as well as historic research.

Located in Oakdale's backyard is the spectacular and breathtaking Yosemite National Park. Yosemite's awesome tract of mountains and valleys are located amidst the Sierra Nevada mountain range and beholds a grand collection of scenic views including waterfalls, meadows and forests populated by groves of giant sequoias. Though places to visit are nearly inexhaustible, some highlights of the park include Yosemite Valley with its high cliffs and waterfalls. Yosemite Falls is the third tallest waterfall in the world.

Visitors can also visit the Wawona's history center and historic hotel, the Mariposa Grove, which is home to hundreds of ancient giant sequoias; Glacier Point, where visitors can view the massive entirety of Yosemite Valley; Tuolomne Meadows, a large sub-alpine meadow enclosed by mountain peaks; and Hetch Hetchy, a reservoir in a valley almost identical to that of Yosemite Valley.
